2012 ESC Bocce League rules

Hi ESC Bocce Ballers,

League play starts Monday, June 4, 2012 @ 6:30. I will be at the ESC @ 5:00 if any teams want to show up early to test out the courts, and refresh your bocce techniques. I can also work with the new teams and get them acquainted to our league. Tiki bar will open @ 5:00

We will have a bocce introductory meeting Monday, May 14th @ 6:30 at the ESC

Here are the league rules for our 2012 season:

1) Each match has two teams, and each team has four balls of the same color (green or red)

2) There is a smaller white ball called a "pallino," "jack," or "cue ball." This ball becomes the target that the red and green balls will be rolled toward.

3) A coin flip determines which team will roll first. The winner of the coin flip rolls the pallino past the half court line and it must stay within the line boundaries of the court. If the "jack" does not cross the mid-court line, or goes out of bounds, the other team throws the "jack" to get it in play. All players must throw their balls with both feet behind the end line of the court.

4) The team that throws the pallino then rolls the first ball. Please "roll" the balls, do not "lob" them, they are heavy and will damage the courts. The object of the game is to get your bocce balls closer to the pallino than the other team.

5) After team 1 has thrown its first ball, then team 2 throws its first ball. After both teams have thrown their first ball, the closer team is "inside" or "in" and the farther team is "outside" or "out."

6) The "outside" team continues to throw until it has the "inside" ball or until it has thrown all of its balls.

7) All balls must be within the boundaries of the court. If the pallino does not cross the midcourt line, or goes out of bounds, it will be rethrown by the other team. If any green or red ball comes to rest outside the lines, it is taken out of play. If a green or red ball goes outside the lines and comes back into the court, it is considered a "dead ball" and will be taken out of play. If ANY PART of the green or red ball is touching the boundary line, it is considered to be "in play."

8) Once all eight balls have been rolled, the "frame" ends. At that point, team captains will determine which balls are closest to the "pallino." One point will be awarded for each ball of one team that is closer to the "jack" than the closest ball of the other team. This can be determined by visual or mechanical measuring. If the red and green closest balls are tied, no points will be awarded and the "frame" ends.

9) When points are awarded, mark it on the scoreboard, and start the next frame from the end where the points were counted. The team that scored the point(s) will throw the "jack" and first ball to start the next frame. The other team rolls the second ball, and the pattern continues.

10) If a green or red ball hits the pallino outside the lines, the "frame" ends and no points will be awarded. Both teams move to the other end of the court, and the team that rolled the pallino in the previous frame rolls it again.

11) The first team to reach 11 points wins the game. We play three games per night.

12) Each team must record its nightly match record (3-0, 2-1, 1-2 or 0-3) on the board so I can update the weeky standings.

Any questions/suggestions/comments please contact me

See you on June 4

Thanks
